Internationally renowned business expert Philip Carmichael will present a masterclass on doing business in China next Thursday (15 November) at the University of Abertay Dundee.

The session, which is free and open to business leaders and members of the public, will look at the rise of Chinese capitalism and the implications for businesses based in Scotland.
Mr Carmichael is a GlobalScot and Honorary Graduate of Abertay University who currently serves as an Operations Advisor to the chairman of private equity company The Longreach Group in Hong Kong; and is an Adjunct Professor at Middlebury?s Monterey Institute of International Studies.
He has served in five major Fortune 500 companies since 1983; building successful, sustainable businesses in China, Japan and across Asia Pacific.
Mr Carmichael said: ?After two global financial crises, Western capitalism is under fire both in North America and in Europe.
?A new form of capitalism is emerging; which may signal a paradigm shift in how the world does business. It?s critically important to companies everywhere to understand both this threat and opportunity.?

The masterclass will be held at 6pm on Thursday 15 November in the Main Lecture Theatre in Abertay University?s Kydd Building on Bell Street.
It is being delivered in partnership with Scottish Enterprise and will be followed by a drinks reception and informal networking event.

Philip Carmichael currently serves as an Operations Advisor to the chairman of private equity company The Longreach Group, Hong Kong (2005-present) and is Adjunct Professor, International Business and Management Department, Middlebury University, USA.
He has served in five major Fortune 500 companies since 1983; building successful, sustainable businesses in China, Japan and across Asia Pacific. Philip has strong leadership skills, characterised by building strong cross cultural teams in technical disciplines.
Fluent in Mandarin, Philip has a strong knowledge of both B2B and consumer markets throughout the Asia region and has led successful growth initiatives in the world?s fastest and most competitive marketplaces; with an in-depth knowledge of both functional and technical disciplines.
With a vast knowledge and experience of managing joint ventures, as well as internal operations and new market entry into China, Philip recently served as CEO of Unisteel Technologies in Singapore and became Vice-President Asia Pacific, The Haier Appliance Group in 2008.
In this role he was responsible for design, production, sales and service in thirty Asian markets. Additionally he spearheaded a major strategic investment in Australia & New Zealand.
