Beijing, China (4E Sports) ? Novak Djokovic bagged his third China Open title on Sunday after beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 7-6 (4), 6-2, Saturday at the Olympic Green Tennis Center.
Djokovic, also the China Open champion in 2009 and 2010 before skipping last season?s tourney due to injury, has now narrowed Roger Federer?s lead going into the final weeks of the ATP Tour schedule.
The Serbian netter is competing neck-to-neck with Federer for the year-ending no.1 spot in the ATP world rankings.
On the women?s side, Victoria Azarenka captured her first China Open title and fifth crown this season by beating Russian star Maria Sharapova, 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday.
Azarenka, the reigning Australian Open champion, came through with another dominating performance to improve her head-to-head record against Sharapova to 7-4.
Meanwhile, Kei Nishikori clinched his second career singles title and he did it before his home crowd after downing Canada?s Milos Raonic, 7-6, 3-6, 6-0, in a three-set battle at the 2012 Japan Open.
Nishikori stunned Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic in the quarterfinal round and bested veteran Marcus Baghdatis in the semis on his way to arranging a finals showdown with Raonic, who also pulled off a shocking win over reigning US Open champion Andy Murray.
