UFC on Fox 6 results: Demetrious Johnson retains title, ?Rampage? loses in Octagon finale

CHICAGO -- The UFC's stop in the Windy City had two great knockouts, a champion holding onto his belt, and the last fight of a one-time champ.

Despite a strong start by John Dodson, Demetrious Johnson held onto his championship belt with a unanimous decision. The judges saw it 48-47, 49-46, 48-47 for Johnson.

Unsurprisingly, Johnson and Dodson fought a fast-paced first two rounds. Johnson tried to slow things down in the first round with a takedown. While he did get Dodson to to the ground, the challenger popped back to his feet quickly.

Dodson dropped Johnson twice in the second round, and shook off Johnson's take down attempts with a great sprawl. Johnson seemed to have a hard time even getting close to Dodson to land a punch.

A Johnson knee in the fourth round caused a small fight stoppage. Dodson's hand was on the ground as Johnson threw a knee to Dodson's head, which is an illegal strike. The bout was stopped as doctors checked Dodson's eye and Johnson was warned. The fight went on, but not without plenty of boos from the crowd in Chicago.

When the fight restarted, it was all Johnson. He controlled Dodson against the cage, and threw knees that busted up Dodson's face. Johnson was able to get a takedown at the beginning of the fifth round, too. Though boos rained down, Johnson kept the fight against the cage.

Later, the crowd got behind him as Johnson elevated, tightened his legs around Dodson's torso and threw elbows. It was a creative move that likely could only happen in the flyweight division. Johnson finished the round with Dodson against the cage, and knee after knee after knee to the body and face.

Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira

If this really was Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's last fight in the UFC, it wasn't one to remember. He was outstruck and outwrestled by Glover Teixeira throughout their bout. Teixeira took the fight 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 on the judges' cards.

Teixeira's first round was his best, as he was able to take Jackson down early and mount him and take his back. Late in the round, Teixeira knocked Jackson down with a punch and looked close to finishing, but wasn't able to end the fight.

The rest of the fight featured a worn out Jackson trying to avoid Teixeira's takedown attempts unsuccessfully. Jackson threw some big punches, and even jawed at Teixeira during the bout, but he wasn't able to score any big offense.

While this fight will be remembered for being Jackson's last UFC bout, Teixeira scored his third straight UFC win on Saturday night. He looked impressive against the former champ.

Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone

Anthony Pettis won his much anticipated bout with Donald Cerrone by landing big, memorable strikes. Pettis was getting the better of their striking exchanges early, which set him up for a big finish. Pettis threw a kick that landed hard on Cerrone's body, then finished with a punch. Cerrone fell to the ground in a heap, and the fight was stopped at 2:35 in the first round.

Pettis lost his first fight in the UFC after coming from the WEC as the champ, but he's been winning ever since. He has wins over Joe Lauzon, Jeremy Stephens and now Cerrone. After the fight, he made a pitch to UFC president Dana White.

"I want my title shot. I should have had it years ago. People say I can?t wrestle because of the Guida fight, but I had a serious shoulder injury. Now I am 100 percent. No one can do in the Octagon what I can do."

While lightweight champion Benson Henderson has a fight set up with Gilbert Melendez, a shot for Pettis isn't unwarranted. It would be a rematch of their WEC title fight, which Pettis won in the promotion's final fight.

Ricardo Lamas vs. Erik Koch

Lamas won the first round by constantly pressuring Koch against the cage. It wasn't exactly the most thrilling round to have start a card on network television, but it led to a thrilling second round. Lamas took advantage of Koch's slip, and then finished the fight with nasty, nasty ground and pound. Lamas started with elbows, then started with strikes that cut open Koch's face. Koch had no answer for Lamas' relentless strikes, and the bout was stopped at 2:32 in the second round.

Lamas thought his performance warranted a title shot.

"I?ve beat Cub Swanson, I?ve beat Hioki and now I?ve beat Koch. All those guys were supposed to be fighting for the title at one point. I beat them all. We?re all here to be world champ and I am no different. I want the winner of Aldo vs Edgar next week. I don?t care who wins, I want the winner."

Animation shows Arctic chill crawling across the U.S.

If you live anywhere within the northern two-thirds of the United States, you've probably noticed that it's pretty chilly outside. The plunge in temperatures over the past few days comes courtesy of an invasion of Arctic air that has been captured in a mesmerizing new animation from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The animation, made with weather data from the NOAA/NCEP Real-Time Mesoscale Analysis, begins on Saturday (Jan. 19) with very cold air seen only over the Rockies, Montana, North Dakota, the northern half of Minnesota and the northern portions of New England. Much of the eastern and central parts of the country saw weekend weather that was balmier than usual for mid-January.

Thanks to a kink in the jet stream that brought it dipping down, the cold air begins plunging southward on Sunday, mostly in the northern plains states and the Midwest. On Monday it begins to surge even farther to the south, covering the Plains, the Midwest, the Northeast and even extending into some of the southern states.

The cold surge retreats a bit later in the day, then makes another push on Tuesday, fully extending into the northern parts of Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia. The pattern repeats on Wednesday, with the cold receding much farther north later in the day, before making another southward push on Thursday.

All the back-and-forth is caused by diurnal cycle of heating and cooling, a NOAA statement explains, but "the pattern is clear: much of the U.S. is pretty cold," it notes.

The cold air is expected to retreat from the Midwest this weekend, letting warmer air force its way in, according to Accuweather.com. The collision of these air masses will bring an ice storm to the region, the site's meteorologists predict.

Snow and icy weather could hit the eastern United States starting tomorrow (Jan. 25), with temperatures finally rising above freezing over the weekend or early next week, depending on the location.

Echoes of Revolution

On Jan. 25, 2011, Egyptians took to the streets, protesting the repressive rule of President Hosni Mubarak. After 18 days, the dictator was gone. But two years later, many Egyptians say nothing has changed except the target of their demonstrations: Islamist President Mohammed Morsi. On the second anniversary of their revolution, Egyptians returned to Tahrir Square, sometimes clashing violently with police. For thousands, the revolution remains a work in progress.

2 Legal Issues To Consider Before Adding A Forum To Your Blog ...

Establishing yourself as a blogger takes effort and time. As you grow, there is a naturally tendency to add on to your blog to create a better experience for your followers. Adding a forum is one option a number of bloggers consider pursuing. Before adding a forum, it is important to understand there are two legal issues you need to take into account or risk destroying your blog.

User Generated Content

Blogger Forums and Legal Issues User generated content is any type of content uploaded to a site by users. Online empires have been built on user generated content. Facebook. Twitter. YouTube. All are comprised, for the most part, of uploaded content from members.

Unfortunately, user generated content can create numerous legal risks for websites. The biggest risk is a copyright infringement claim. If you add a forum to your blog, you must understand members will inevitably upload copyrighted material to it without the permission of the copyright holders. This could draw you into a copyright infringement lawsuit unless you comply with one law ? the DMCA.

DMCA

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 is a controversial law. Copyright owners believe the law doesn?t go far enough to protect their works. If you have ever had someone steal your blog content, you probably feel this way. Others feel the law is abused by copyright holders to snuff out free speech and competition.

It is an interesting debate, but it really doesn?t matter because the law is an absolute benefit to any site allowing users to post content. Why? The DMCA provides such sites with immunity from monetary liability for copyright complaints arising from content posted by members. In plain English, this means Facebook is not liable when one of its members posts a video containing music from Radiohead. The member posting the video may be liable, but not the site.

Without the DMCA safe harbor immunity, sites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube would not exist. The flood of copyright infringement lawsuits arising from content posted by their members would have pushed them into bankruptcy long ago. For those of you who remember Napster, that site was doomed by such attacks.

DMCA Compliance Burden

Will a Forum Bring Legal Issues for You?Adding a forum to your blog is conceptually a positive strategy. It allows your followers to interact with you and each other, which is obviously beneficial. Unfortunately, complying with the DMCA can throw a wrench in this relationship.

Compliance with the DMCA involves both a bit of red tape and a need to understand how to respond to complaints. The initial compliance steps include:

  • Creating a DMCA policy and publishing it on your site,
  • Choosing an agent to receive complaints from copyright owners,
  • Registering the agent with the Copyright Office, and
  • Establishing a repeat infringer policy.

The problem for most bloggers is figuring out what to do once an actual complaint comes in. Let?s assume one of your forum members posts a YouTube video with a Rolling Stones song playing over various images. The publishing company owning the rights to the song submits a copyright complaint to your DMCA agent.

Now what do you do?

The answer is to either hire an attorney to deal with it or learn the DMCA requirements so you can handle the complaint on your own. Either approach is fine, but the DMCA is very deadline oriented. To maintain your immunity, you must meet every deadline. This burden alone often turns bloggers off to the idea of adding a forum to their sites, but there is an additional issue you need to take into account.

A Practical Problem

For most blogs, the goal is to create a positive relationship with the visitor. After all, people don?t follow blogs they hate! Developing credibility and trust with your readers takes significant effort and time. Unfortunately, complying with the DMCA can breach this trust or at least damage it.

The problem arises from the first step you must take when a copyright complaint comes in ? the removal of the allegedly offending content. The law does not allow you to make a determination as to whether the complaint is valid or not. The content simply must be removed immediately and then the person who posted it is served with notice of the complaint and given time to argue against the removal.

As you can probably imagine, the immediate removal requirement of the DMCA leads to hard feelings with the person who posted the content. Members do not understand why their content is being taken down and why you, the blogger, are accusing them of copyright infringement and aren?t fighting on their behalf.

Herein is the fundamental problem of the DMCA. In protecting yourself from being sued, you aggravate your followers. The top thread in the forum for your blog can quickly become why you have turned against your members, which is a no-win debate for you. This probably isn?t what you had in mind when you decided to add the forum to your blog.

In Closing

Does adding a forum to your blog make sense? There is no absolutely correct answer. The important thing to understand is there are both positives and drawbacks to forums. You can weigh each for your blog and then make a decision for yourself.

JLo tones down concert in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) ? Jennifer Lopez wowed thousands of fans in Indonesia, but they didn't see as much of her as concertgoers in other countries ? the American pop star toned down both her sexy outfits and her dance moves during her show in the world's most populous Muslim country, promoters said Saturday.

Lopez's "Dance Again World Tour" was performed in the country's capital, Jakarta, on Friday in line with promises Lopez made to make her show more appropriate for the audience, said Chairi Ibrahim from Dyandra Entertainment, the concert promoter.

"JLo was very cooperative ... she respected our culture," Ibrahim said, adding that Lopez's managers also asked whether she could perform her usual sexy dance moves, but were told that "making love" moves were not appropriate for Indonesia.

"Yes, she dressed modestly ... she's still sexy, attractive and tantalizing, though," said Ira Wibowo, an Indonesian actress who was among more than 7,000 fans at the concert.

Another fan, Doddy Adityawarman, was a bit disappointed with the changes.

"She should appear just the way she is," he said, "Many local artists dress even much sexy, much worse."

Lopez changed several times during her 90-minute concert along with several dancers, who also dressed modestly without revealing their chests or cleavage.

Most Muslims in Indonesia, a secular country of 240 million people, are moderate. But a small extremist fringe has become more vocal in recent years.

They have pushed through controversial laws ? including an anti-pornography bill ? and have been known to attack anything perceived as blasphemous, from transvestites and bars to "deviant" religious sects.

Lady Gaga was forced to cancel her sold-out show in Indonesia in May following threats by Islamic hard-liners, who called her a "devil worshipper."

Lopez will also perform in Muslim-majority Malaysia on Sunday.

"Thank you Jakarta for an amazing night," the 43-year-old diva tweeted to her 13 million followers Saturday.
